I couldn't believe it when I picked Kali up from her new daycare Friday that she had poo'd in the potty. I was stunned!! To those of you who are a little lost, we had thought Kali was ready back when she was 21 months. She showed all the exact signs as now, but freaked out when it came to the action of going potty (i.e., peeing in toilet). So we backed off for awhile. Didn't want to push her. She was ready, but not 100%. Back to present...so that was on Friday. On Saturday she pee'd in the toilet and today she did the same! Woohoo! After my little 5 minute dance of praises and loud "hurrays" (I'm sure the neighbors are thinking I'm praising myself over going potty & that I need serious help) Kali was awarded an oreo cookie. I think she was more excited to be able to use the toilet paper finally, as we never let her use it unless she went potty, than the cookie. :)
I have to admit, I don't think I could ever tell someone how excited they will get when they're child poops or pees in a toilet for the first time. It even surprised me. Kali did freak out a little, but when it came down to it, she did great and was even excited, though shaking a bit, about doing the deed. I will have to say this is definitely harder than those newborn days that everyone tells you about being a first time parent. I'd have to say the potty training days are the hardest, so far. Newborn days?!....those are just around the corner. ;)

Everett Trip
I have to give Kali credit in hanging in there on the car ride up to Everett. She did a good job. We did stop for an hour for a dinner break/Kali break, but were soon on our way. Full with McD nuggets and milk and we were good for another two hours. The Apple Jack's came in handy the last leg of the trip. We were getting desperate at that point. I think I even feasted on the dry remains of green and orange O's.
It was a wonderful trip being able to see the grandparents and, them, being able to see Kali. It had been a long time since either of them had seen her. There was no shortage of entertainment for them as Kali made sure they all had a part in playing with the toy treasures that were hiding in the back room at grandma Johnsons house. Grandma/Grandpa Strecker were equally entertained with Kali and Teddy, and the hopping up and down from the grand lazy boy Kali, oh so loved. She treated as though it were her throne. Sorry Grandpa, its all yours now. ;)
Not was it only fun to see the family, but it was a great trip...and break for me...to get out of the house and do some bonding with Kali out of the familiar walls of the apartment. Even sleeping with a snoring toddler next to me in bed was precious and memorable. I enjoyed the small things that usually don't happen at home...like sharing a bed with Kali. She loved waking up in the morning next to me with a big grin on her face, leaning over my huge stomach and peering into my sleeping face. Of course, the tickling of her hair on my cheek and knowing that as soon as I opened my eyes I would be greeting with a toothy smile, one could only TRY to resist! Even though our moments in bed together in the morning were short (we were both ready for breakfast), I always look back on those and wish I could keep her small and innocent, and know that we will always have that close bond. I'm so lucky to have her, her unique, God-given personality, and her enduring love for me a parent. I only pray that God continue to strengthen our relationship over the next many years ahead of us...and grant me patience and wisdom to raise her the "right way".

An overdue update
It has come to my attention (thank you, heather) that it has been a long time since updating our blog. And, oh my...has it. So here's a recap of the month of February...
The biggest highlight of February would have to be Kali's 2nd Birthday. Complete with an Elmo and Big Bird birthday cake (choc. with rasp. filling). Everyone enjoyed the cake except Kali, who had been hit with the stomach flu Friday...her party was Sunday. She wasn't quite herself, of course, but she did quite well considering. She had a little friend of her's, Avery, over (some friends of Steve and I) and another friend of mine who had her little 8 month old girl with them. Oh, and Gpa and Gma Strecker were there also.
We didn't do much for her 1st bday, considering that its not that big of a deal to them at that age...or at 2 for that matter, so I got into celebrating her bday with style this year a bit more..and with a more diverse group of guests. It all ended up being just right and Kali even managed to enjoy most of it feeling under the weather.
Other than that, February prooved to be a very nice month weather wise, so Kali and I spent a lot of our days outdoors. Kali could be frequently spotted going up and down the sidewalk with her new tricycle making sure to say hi to every passerby and waving at all the school buses that passed us. She discovered the speed bump in the parking lot next to our apartments and had a blast going over that....over and over and over again. Mr Teddy took a couple nose dives off the tricycle and onto the pavement in the process. But no worries!! Nurse Kali tended to him making sure to kiss his "owies", asking him if he was "ok? ok?!"...then stuffing him in the "trunk" of her tricycle and continuing with her journey down the sidewalk. Mr. Teddy sure puts up with a lot, I tell ya.
Steve is in the midst of "tax season", working about 70 hrs a week, so its been a hard adjustment for him not being able to see Kali most of the week. He's been working hard and seems to be really liking where he's working at...despite the current conditions, of course. Its been stressful on him, but we think he's doing a great job. Only 5 weeks to go until its over!!! Countdown begins!
I am about 6 months along now with the pregnancy and I as of last entry we didn't know what we were having. Kali will be Big Sis' to a little sister. Everything looked great at the big ultrasound and Steve is going to have to brace himself for all the estrogen that will be filling the house in the years to come. I'm bracing myself!!! :) He thinks he'll be able to golf more....not if those girls love to shop! ;). The morning sickness finally passed in January, no one has been sick since January, except Kali. Now onto the wonderful pregnancy discomforts and trying to keep up with busy bee Kali. Now that's a challenge when pregnant! Phew! No weird cravings though this time around, pretty normal...for as normal as can be when pregnant, I guess. Just plain old tired all the time. But still working at the salon, though it has been quite slow lately.
That's about it for February! It was a pretty laid back month with a little adjustments with Steve's work. With March upon us now, we're looking at probably not so nice weather as February brought, but at least a light at the end of the tunnel as far as tax season goes. I think all of us here at home cheer "YES!!!".
